(5) Fly to Tippet Assemble rod, then pass leader and fly line through guides and tip. The fly can be attached with several knots including the improved clinch and turle knot; however, the best all-around bass fly knot is the Duncan Loop (Uniknot or Australian knot). It gives the option of an adjustable open loop knot or a tight fixed knot. (a) Pass 4 to 5 inches of the tippet through the hook eye. Form loop then (b) wrap 5 turns around top of the loop and standing part of tippet. (c) Pull tag end slowly until knot starts to tighten. Slide knot to desired position and pull tag end to tighten knot. Trim excess. The loop will stay open permitting the fly to swing freely until you strike a fish. As knot slides to hook eye, the extra "give" will often prevent a break-off. You can reopen the loop by sliding the knot back.
