On The Water Review
We have all owned a knot tying tool at
some point in time, some have been great some
not so great. In my experience a majority will
do a couple of knots well but The Winder stands
apart from the rest. The Winder has a majority
of uses packed into this little tool compared to
other knot tying tools. We found this tool to be
not too big and not too small just the perfect
size to work with and not too bulky for your
vest.
First off The Winder comes complete with
instructions on how to tie your own leaders, and
a hook size chart. More importantly it comes
with a DVD that fully explains and shows you how
to tie knots utilizing The Winder. It may be a
little overwhelming at first be patient sit down
with the DVD and go thru and tie the knots
following the DVD. You will soon discover in
seconds how easy this tool is to use and what an
asset it will become!
 One
feature we absolutely loved was the fact that
upon tying the improved clinch knot The Winder
locks your fly in place. The Winder also enables
you to tie the simplest nail knot I know I have
ever tied. The Winder has the ability to clamp
on the tag end of your leader. Because The
Winder clamps on less than a half an inch of
line it will not waste any of your leader.
The Winder is also a nice tool to have for tying
dropper loops, it just could not be any easier
with this tool. You can also create strike
indicator loops with The Winder as well.
We liked the fact that you can dissemble The
Winder for easy cleaning. It is well machined
and crafted. What we soon found was the fact
that the winder does everything from tying your
backing onto your reel to tying on your fly. I
can honestly say this is the first knot tying
tool that I have used that ties more knots and
does so effortlessly. Simply put, The Winder
will save you time on the water! Kudos to Willow
Reed for creating a knot tying tool that does
exactly what it says it will do!
