Tying Bench Review
Model Tested Trekker Clamp Vise

The Trekker may be consider Dyna-King's entry level model into the world of rotary tying. Entry level is not what I would consider the Trekker to be! In my opinion the Trekker has the best designed jaws on the market. The Jaws are perfectly sized to accept hook sizes ranging from 22 to 8/0. What makes the jaw design so perfect is the fact that there are two slots within the jaws that accept different sized hooks. There is a large slot ideal for say saltwater hooks, a medium sized slot for medium sized hooks, and the serrated tip of the jaws can be used for small hooks. We were unable to get a hook to slip upon applying pressure once placed in any of the locations in the jaws.

Tension on the hook can easily be adjusted by rotating the forcing cone. The Cam Handle securely locks the hook in place and makes opening and closing the jaws an easy task. One thing we definitely liked about this vise compared to other rotary vises on the market is the fact that tension is supplied by the forcing cone and not a rubber ring (other manufactures use a rubber ring that adds tension to the jaws, they also wear out and do not perform properly). Not so with the Trekker!

The Trekker is machined well and the clamp model is extremely sturdy. The clamp base features the Outrigger design
which adds secure contact to your tying table. There is absolutely no chance of The Trekker wobbling or loosening upon use. All of our staff found this vise to be comfortable and sturdy. It is very lightweight and would be ideal for travel yet sturdy enough for your tying desk. Make no mistakes about it The Trekker vise will be the only vise you will ever need. There is no need to have a vise for travel and one for the tying desk. The Trekker is easy to break down for packing yet very sturdy for being so lightweight. The Clamp version also features a set collar that locks the stem in place once the vise is connected to the clamp. This collar prevents the stem from slipping.

The Trekker vise is a very comfortable vise for those extended tying sessions. We loved the fact that you are able to slide and change the height of the vise body. This made tying larger Saltwater flies easier since the tail section of the flies did not interfere with the spindle.

The rotary function on this vise is smooth and top notch. I have personally used other rotary vises that are rather heavy and you can feel the additional weight while rotating the hub. Not the case with The Trekker! Due to the lightweight in the stem and the light end of the jaw section the rotary use is smooth and flawless and will give you an absolute straight axis.

Dyna-King has also made setup extremely easy. It only took a couple of minutes to get The Trekker from box to tying desk. Full instructions and care are included in the box.

I can honestly say I have used a rotary vise from every manufacturer out there. The Dyna-King features the best jaws on the market. I would highly suggest purchasing the Trekker Vise. This vise will last you a very long time and you will not be disappointed with the functionality, weight, comfort, or design of this vise. Dyna-King hit a home run with The Trekker, a true rotary vise at an affordable price. Dyna-King is truly the King of the rotary vise!
